The Portuguese Group for History and Sport (GHD) gathers researchers from several institutions, with the main goal of promoting cooperation, research and studies in the field of sport history.

Call for Papers

The Group for History and Sport organizes in 2018 its V Congress dedicated to the theme Sport and Popular Culture.

Thematic lines:

 

  • Popular culture and sport: meanings and transgressions

  • Sport and popular games

  • The sportsman as pop star

  • For a history of culture celebrities in sport

  • Team sports and individuals in the contemporary cultural context

  • Cultural representations and gender roles in sports professions

  • Sport events and cultural movements

  • Media, literature, panting, photography and video games

  • Internet as space of popular representations of sport

  • Sport tattoos: popular meanings

  • Religion, art and aesthetic

  • Food, folklore, music and fashion

  • Physical education and leisure

  • Cultural work, tourism and museology

We seek abstracts of no more than 500 words, include three keywords related the proposed paper, a brief curriculum vitae, academic affiliation and contact information (including email and telephone).

Papers can be presented in Portuguese, English and Spanish, via email to: historia.desporto@gmail.com

   March 19 – Closing deadline for proposals

   March 26 – Notification of abstract acceptance

   April 26 – Final program

Fees

   Participants with papers: 40 euros and 20 euros (students)

   Others (with certificate and documentation): 10 euros
